Alternatives to diesel fuel have emerged in Ukraine due to interruptions in supplies from Hungary and Slovakia

  • Ukraine can replace up to 40% of diesel fuel with alternative sources.
  • Attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline are impacting Hungary's energy security.
  • Russia is facing a fuel crisis due to interruptions in supply.

This was reported by Interfax Ukraine, RBC Ukraine.

In Ukraine, there is a possibility to replace diesel fuel supplies that Hungary and Slovakia may stop due to attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the Druzhba oil pipeline. This was stated by the director of the consulting company A-95, Sergey Kuyn. He noted that due to the availability of logistical reserves, the country can replace up to 40% of fuel consumption if needed.

Kuyn expressed doubts that Hungary and Slovakia would be able to find buyers like Ukraine, especially since the Ukrainian market is quite attractive for traders. He also added that the supply of oil to oil refineries in these countries at market prices could lead to an increase in the price of oil products, which could negatively impact the political situation in these countries.

Attacks on the Druzhba oil pipeline have occurred not only on the territory of Ukraine but also at Russian facilities, which led to the suspension of the transit of Russian oil through Ukraine to Hungary. The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Peter Szijjarto, called these attacks an attempt to undermine the energy security of his country. In response to this, the Hungarian government does not rule out the possibility of stopping energy supplies to Ukraine.

Despite this, Ukraine continues to transit Russian oil, as this brings significant revenue. At the same time, the Ukrainian intelligence reports on the fuel crisis in Russia, where there is already a shortage of gasoline in some regions, and prices for fuel have increased by 8% in September.
