Ryanair Increases Bonuses for Employees for Identifying Oversized Luggage

  • Ryanair will increase bonuses for identifying non-compliant luggage to €2.50.
  • Fines for passengers for exceeding the size limits of hand luggage can reach £60.
  • Starting from November 1, 2025, the limits on maximum monthly bonuses for employees will be lifted.

The airline Ryanair has announced an increase in bonuses for employees who identify oversized hand luggage. Starting from November 1, 2025, airport employees will receive €2.50 for each non-compliant bag they take from passengers, reported the airline's general director, Michael O'Leary.

Along with the new rules, passengers who exceed the maximum dimensions for free hand luggage may be fined up to £60. Additionally, their bags may be placed in the hold.

Previously, Ryanair had set a limit on bonuses at €80 per month, but now these limits will also be lifted. O'Leary noted that the goal is to encourage employees to identify more non-compliant bags, which would allow them to avoid delays during boarding.

Along with the new rules, passengers can take one small bag for free, the dimensions of which do not exceed 40x30x20 cm. Another piece of hand luggage, usually a small suitcase, may be charged separately.

O'Leary emphasized that 99.9% of passengers comply with the rules, and only 0.1% of violators cause problems. He also noted that the company aims to increase efficiency and reduce tariffs.

In addition, Ryanair plans to launch four new routes from London at the beginning of the winter season, which will increase the number of European destinations from Stansted Airport.
