Activists Draw Attention to the Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza During the Venice Festival
- The Venice Festival is drawing attention to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
- Activists are calling on organizers to condemn Israel's actions.
- The protest is scheduled for August 30, focusing on supporting Palestinians.
From August 27, the 82nd International Film Festival is taking place in Venice, but many activists are focused on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Organizations like Venice4Palestine (V4P) are urging the festival to officially condemn the "genocide in Gaza" and ethnic cleansing in Palestine.
At the festival, an action of protest is planned for August 30, to which numerous political and community groups are invited. More than 1,500 people, including prominent figures in cinema, have signed an open letter to the organizers, in which they called for the exclusion of invited actors Jared Butler and Gal Gadot due to their support for Israel.
The festival director, Alberto Barbera, stated that the organizers will not be denying artists participation, but are always ready for open discussions on important social issues. He also confirmed that the festival will include films that address current topics, including "The Voice of Hind Rajab" about the death of a young girl in Gaza.
Protesters believe that the festival should actively support Palestinians, including their martyred children in the event's program. They also point to the growing humanitarian crisis, where, according to UN data, many people are suffering from hunger and violence.
The festival continues to shine a spotlight, but this year it has also become a venue for important social issues that may be violated within the framework of the event.
