- Nevada, New Hampshire, and Iowa are competing for the first place in the electoral process.
- The meeting of the Rules and Bylaws Committee will take place in the fall to discuss the calendar.
MINNEAPOLIS — The Democratic Party of the USA has begun preparations for formulating the calendar for the 2028 primary elections. Chair of the Democratic National Committee Ken Martin announced that the process of establishing the order of the primary elections will start in the fall. Martin emphasized that it is important to ensure clarity in the issue of holding the primary elections earlier, in order to prepare a strong candidate.
At this moment, representatives of different states have already begun to actively advocate for their states to receive the right to hold the primary elections. In particular, Nevada is vying to be the first state, citing its uniqueness and the status of a battleground state. New Hampshire is emphasizing its historical significance as "the first in the nation," while Iowa is reminding about its law that designates it as the first state.
After President Joe Biden's re-election in 2024, the Party is considering the possibility of changing the traditional order of holding the primary elections, which may influence the economy of the states and the selection of candidates for the presidential elections. Martin noted that the new composition of the Rules and Bylaws Committee, which will address these issues, will consist of many new members, which may facilitate changes.
Among the potential candidates for the first place could be Pennsylvania, Carolina, and Georgia. Representatives of states that wish to obtain this right are already leading negotiations with influential members of the DNC, striving to consolidate their position. For example, Democrats in Nevada have issued a memorandum, in which they emphasize that their state should be the first in 2028, if the party is seriously committed to the revival of the working class.
In the fall, there will be a meeting of the Rules and Bylaws Committee to formalize the order of the primary election calendar. However, representatives of New Hampshire noted that their state is obligated to hold the first elections in accordance with state law, which may complicate the process.
