Flight Cancellations Due to FAA Restrictions at Airports

  • Restrictions on flights have been implemented due to delays in the work of air traffic controllers
  • The majority of flight cancellations have affected smaller airports
  • The total number of canceled flights exceeded 815 across the entire country

In connection with the prolonged work stoppage of the U.S. government, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has imposed restrictions on the number of flights at 40 major airports. These measures began to take effect on November 7, 2025, to reduce the burden on air traffic controllers, who have been working without pay for over a month.

Flight cancellations have affected not only major airports but also smaller ones, such as Pensacola Airport in Florida, where all flights between Pensacola and Miami were canceled, regardless of the fact that Miami Airport falls under new restrictions. This complicates travel for passengers who do not have convenient alternatives.

National statistics indicate that more than 815 flights were canceled across the country. For example, Delta Air Lines canceled nearly 170 flights on Friday, while American Airlines planned to cancel 220 flights daily until Monday.

The FAA indicated that the immediate reduction in flights would create a shortage of 4%, and by November 14, it would increase to 10%. These reductions will be in effect from 6 AM to 10 PM and will apply to all commercial airlines.
