Forecast of Winter Weather for 100 Million Americans
- The largest snowfall is expected in the northeastern states of the USA, including Chicago and Indiana.
- Snow is predicted in North Dakota and record low temperatures in the south.
- The snowfall will affect over 100 million Americans in the busiest days.
More than 100 million Americans will experience the consequences of arctic snowfall in the busiest days. It is forecasted that daytime temperatures will drop to the 30s and 40s degrees Fahrenheit, with wind chills that can lower the perceived temperature to single digits in the northern states, such as Nebraska, Iowa, and South Dakota.
In the northern plains and Great Lakes, including North Dakota, snow drifts are expected to accumulate up to 3 feet (8 cm). The weather is also impacting the southern USA, where record low temperatures may occur. In Knoxville, Tennessee, temperatures could drop to 24 degrees, while in Orlando, Florida, to 40 degrees.
Forecasters note that this snowfall is unusual for this time of year. Specifically, in states like Indiana and Michigan, heavy snow is also predicted. In Chicago, residents are warned about hazardous road conditions due to snow and strong winds.
In the south, in areas like Atlanta, temperatures could be 15-25 degrees below historical norms. This leads to interesting and dangerous phenomena: saplings can fall from trees when the temperature drops below 40 degrees, causing them to go into a dormant state.
It is predicted that the cold will be short-lived, and by the middle of the week, the temperature will begin to rise.
