On November 7, 2025, Republican congresswoman Elise Stefanik announced her intention to run for the position of governor of New York. In her video announcement, she referred to Governor Kathy Hochul as "the worst governor in America" and described New York as "the least accessible state in the country."

Stefanik represents the Republican district in the northern part of New York. She has already been campaigning for several months regarding her candidacy, actively criticizing Hochul, as well as New York City Mayor Eric Adams.

However, the launch of her campaign did not go without problems. The campaign's website was launched with errors in the text written in Latin, which drew criticism from opponents. The director of the response to the situation from the Democratic Party of New York Eddison Dick shared images from the site, which had errors and strange phrases that looked more like an unfinished version.

In addition, Hochul also launched a campaign against Stefanik, sharing statements about the "site that has not been hacked," in which she accused her of being close to Trump and his politics. Stefanik, who is a former ally of Trump, was previously nominated for the position of ambassador to the UN, but this candidacy was withdrawn due to the appearance that her departure from Congress could threaten the Republican majority.

Following the challenges related to her campaign, Stefanik has the support of nearly 75% of the heads of Republican county parties in the state. She hopes that her popularity and ties to the Bill family will help her in the electoral districts.
