China plans to resume chip exports for the automotive industry in Europe following an agreement made between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. This became possible due to the compromise that includes a suspension of Chinese restrictions on the export of key components.
The Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs, Vincent Karremans, stated that the country received confirmation regarding the resumption of chip supplies from Nexperia, which is controlled by China. This follows the Netherlands taking control of the company due to concerns over national security.
Chips from Nexperia, which are manufactured in the Netherlands, were previously sent to China for final processing, after which they are returned to Europe. Along with other recent developments, the company Aumovio, one of the main suppliers of the German automotive industry, received approval for the resumption of chip exports.
This situation underscores the importance of chip supplies for the automotive industry, as their absence could lead to serious shortages in the production of automobiles in Europe and Japan. Currently, there are positive signals from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz regarding the possibility that supplies could resume in the near future.
