NCAA Strips Rights from Six Players Due to Betting Manipulation

- The investigation revealed schemes of manipulation and information transfer.
- NCAA oversees nearly 30 former players in its investigations.
NCAA has stripped rights from six players of a men's basketball team due to participation in schemes involving betting. This action was announced on Friday, November 7, 2025, in connection with three separate cases involving universities in New Orleans, Mississippi Valley, and Arizona.
The NCAA committee's investigation found that players, including Sedkavavius Hunter, Dyukvian Short, Jamond Vincent, Donovon Sanders, Alvyn Stredik, and Chatton "B. J." Freeman, manipulated their performances to achieve results favorable for betting. They either knowingly worsened their results or provided information that allowed others to place bets during the 2024-25 season.
In the past, the NCAA had already banned three players who placed bets on their own games at Fresno State and San Jose State. The organization also reported that the investigation involves nearly 30 former players, including those involved in gambling games.
Evidence of manipulation includes testimonies from students who heard players discussing bets on their games. According to NCAA data, three players from New Orleans manipulated their performances in seven matches, trying to progress with a larger margin than expected. Two other players from Mississippi Valley received money offers for poor performance in matches, while Freeman provided information for betting through various fantasy-sports platforms.
This incident has sparked renewed discussions regarding ethics in the sports environment, especially as the legalization of sports betting in the USA becomes more widespread.
