Milan clubs plan to build a new stadium by 2030
- The new San Siro stadium is planned to be completed by 2030
- The clubs are investing over one billion euros in the project
- It is expected that the new arena will ensure significant revenue
Milan — The new San Siro stadium is expected to be ready by 2030, which the clubs "Inter" and "Milan" are hoping for. However, the president of "Inter" Giuseppe Marotta expressed concern about the bureaucratic delays in Italy, which could hinder the realization of the project.
The clubs have completed the purchase of the 99-year-old stadium and the adjacent territory in the city, which allows them to demolish the old stadium and jointly build a new arena for 71,500 spectators. The plans foresee the completion of construction by the start of the 2032 European Championship, which Italy will host together with Turkey.
"We hope that everything will take place, although the Italian bureaucracy is very strong. We expect that by 2030 everything will be ready," Marotta stated during the press conference.
He emphasized that over the last 15 years in Europe, 50 stadiums have been built, while in Italy only three have been modernized. "I don't think the main problem is money, but rather the prevailing bureaucracy," he added.
Both clubs belong to American companies: "Milan" is owned by RedBird, while "Inter" is owned by Oaktree. The value of the deal for the acquisition of San Siro was 197 million euros, and investments in the new stadium will exceed one billion euros. It is expected that the clubs will earn up to 180 million euros per year from the new arena.
The clubs also announced a partnership with architectural firms Foster + Partners and Manica for the design development of the new stadium, which will occupy an area larger than three million square feet. "We want to build the best stadium in Europe," stated the president of "Milan" Paolo Scaroni.
With the new stadium, they plan to attract tourists on match days, organize excursions, concerts, and other events.
