Paddy Pimblett Awaits Confirmation Date for Fight with Ilia Topuria
- Paddy Pimblett is preparing for a fight with Ilia Topuria.
- Topuria received a vacant title after defeating Oliveira.
- Max Holloway believes that Pimblett could become a champion.
The team of Paddy Pimblett reported that the fighter from Liverpool has received a "possible date" for his upcoming fight, in which he hopes to meet Ilia Topuria.
Pimblett, who has a personal rivalry with Topuria spanning over three years, is eager to become the first contender for the lightweight title. Topuria claimed the vacant title after defeating former champion Charles Oliveira in red, after which their conference took place in the octagon.
Currently, no upcoming bouts have been confirmed between either fighter, although they are looking to finalize arrangements for the super fight that began in 2022, when Topuria called out Pimblett in a publication of anti-gay comments.
One of Pimblett's trainers, Ellis Hamson, noted that the fighter is actively preparing and awaiting confirmation of the fight date. Another trainer, Paul Rimmer, also expressed hope for clarity in Pimblett's plans.
Pimblett last fought in April, winning against Michael Chandler, a former three-time Bellator champion.
Ilia Topuria, who has defeated all of his opponents at the professional level, is also exploring the possibility of taking the title against Dustin Gethje.
At the same time, Max Holloway expressed the opinion that Pimblett has the potential to become the UFC champion, regardless of the fact that most experts consider him underrated in the division. Holloway stressed that it is not worth excluding Pimblett from the calculations for the title in the future.
