The war in Sudan continues, despite recent attempts to negotiate a humanitarian ceasefire between the army and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The conflict, which began in April 2023, has resulted in the deaths of at least 40,000 people and the displacement of 12 million individuals.
On July 26, 2025, RSF captured the city of El-Fashir, marking a key moment in the struggle for control over the Darfur region. Reports indicate the brutality that occurred at the site during the capture, including the killings of civilians trying to flee. One report mentions that up to 60 people were killed on a single street.
Evidence of the violence is confirmed by satellite images, which show signs of mass graves. According to statements from UN representatives, violations of human rights continue, including acts of violence and killings.
Meanwhile, RSF has responded to a proposal from the U.S. and Arab states for a humanitarian ceasefire, but nonetheless continued attacks by the warring factions on the capital Khartoum and the city of Atbara. The Sudanese army confirmed the interception of drones that were attempting to carry out strikes.
According to UNICEF data, only from El-Fashir since the moment of capture, over 81,000 people have been displaced, who require emergency humanitarian assistance. However, given the ongoing violence, access to aid remains limited.
