The Kremlin Denies Rumors of Lavrov's Resignation at the Summit with Trump

  • Lavrov was absent at the important meetings of the Kremlin, which raised suspicions.
  • The Kremlin dismissed rumors about Lavrov's resignation from his ministerial position.
  • Attempts to organize a summit between Trump and Putin were suspended due to disagreements.

The Kremlin dismissed rumors that the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergei Lavrov would resign in support of President Vladimir Putin. These rumors emerged after last month's suspended attempts to organize a summit between Putin and Donald Trump.

Lavrov, 75, known for his decisive diplomatic style, was not present at an important meeting in the Kremlin, which raised additional questions. Additionally, Putin invited another representative to participate in the upcoming G20 summit in Southern Africa, which is usually attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

It is noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has not disclosed Lavrov's plans regarding travel and speeches for two weeks. This fueled suspicions that Lavrov, who has been in this position for over twenty years, could have informed Putin through the canceled summit in Budapest.

However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov denied these rumors, stating that "in these reports there is nothing true." He confirmed that Lavrov continues to fulfill his duties as Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Lavrov spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on July 20 to discuss a possible summit, but Trump later stated that he did not want to hold a meeting that "would be a waste of time." It is also reported that the U.S. suspended the summit after the Ministry of Lavrov indicated its unwillingness to meet the journalistic demands regarding Ukraine.

The Kremlin is eager to maintain order in its ranks, regardless of the rumors about internal conflicts. Putin emphasizes the importance of establishing relations with Washington, considering this a national interest of Russia.
