Vesa announced the death of his son after absence from the World Series

The Los Angeles Dodgers, the relief pitcher Alex Vesa announced the tragedy in his family. He missed the World Series due to "the deep personal family matter," and on November 7, 2025, on his Instagram page, he revealed that his son, Sterling, passed away.
“Our little angel, we will always love you, you will always be with us,” wrote Vesa and his friend Kayla. The post featured a photo, in which he is held by his parents. They noted that their son passed away on July 26.
The Dodgers announced on July 23 that Vesa would not be able to be with the team during the World Series, and expressed their support for his family. Vesa finished the season with a record of 4-2 and a 3.02 ERA in 68 regular-season games, and also 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA in seven playoff games.
The Dodgers honored his memory, wearing number 51 on their caps during the World Series, and also received support from the Toronto Blue Jays team.
Vesa thanked the medical staff at Cedars Sinai Medical Center for their help, as well as the fans of both teams: "Our baseball family supported us, and we couldn't have done this without them," he added.
The Dodgers won the World Series, securing their second consecutive title, defeating Toronto in the seven games.
