Prices for turkey for Thanksgiving 2025 have increased by 75% compared to last year due to the outbreak of avian flu and a decrease in the poultry population. According to data from Purdue University, average prices for turkey reached $1.71 per pound.

President Donald Trump stated that spending on Thanksgiving dinner has decreased by 25% in 2025, referring to a special offer from Walmart. However, analysts indicate that prices are dropping due to a change in the assortment of products in the turkey category, and not due to a decrease in the overall value of the products.

Spending on Thanksgiving dinner from Walmart has dropped to less than $40, while this year the turkey category has only 15 products, whereas last year there were 29. Some desserts and other traditional dishes are missing.

Research shows that as a result of the avian flu outbreak, the number of turkeys has decreased by nearly 3 million, which has contributed to the price increase. In 2025, the number of turkeys in the USA will have dropped to the lowest level in the last 40 years.
