President Trump Plans to Attend the Game Between the Ravens and Commanders
- Trump is attending an NFL game for the first time since 1978.
- The game will take place as part of the initiative "Honoring Service" by the NFL.
- Trump's presence may draw attention to the government crisis.
Washington, D.C. — President Donald Trump is expected to attend the game between the Washington Commanders and the Detroit Lions, which will take place this Sunday at the stadium in the Mid-Atlantic region. This will be the first instance where a sitting U.S. president attends an NFL game at this stadium in Landover, Maryland.
Commanders President Mark Klaus expressed the honor of having Trump at the game, noting that the organization is participating in the overall football initiative "Honoring Service," which honors veterans and active military service members.
This game will be the first that Trump attends since his presence at the Super Bowl last summer. During the Super Bowl, he interacted with players from the Kansas City Chiefs.
Trump will occupy a spot in the owner's luxury box alongside his partner Commanders owner Josh Harris. This will be the first visit by a president to an NFL game since 1978, when Jimmy Carter attended a match in Washington against the Dallas Cowboys.
Trump has a long history of connections with the Commanders, including in April when he announced plans for the NFL Draft 2027 to be held in Washington, and he also threatened to cancel the Commanders' stadium deal, which the team has not returned to its former name.
This year, "Honoring Service" will proceed against the backdrop of ongoing government crisis, which may influence military participation in NFL events. Trump's presence may draw additional attention to the match.
