WNBA Draft is scheduled for November 23 with Dallas having the highest chances
- Dallas Wings have a 42% chance of getting the first pick in the draft.
- The lottery will take place on November 23 and will be broadcast on ESPN.
- The WNBA League is expanding to 15 teams this season.
On November 23, the annual draft lottery for the WNBA will take place, where the Dallas Wings have the highest chances of getting the first pick overall.
The Wings, who selected Paige Beckers first overall last year, have a 42% chance of getting the first pick again. The new team coach, Jose Fernandez, was introduced on Thursday.
Currently, the WNBA is negotiating with the players' union regarding a new collective agreement. The sides have agreed to extend the deadline to November 30. Under the terms of the new agreement, the draft typically takes place in April.
The Minnesota team, which received the first round pick from the Chicago Sky in a trade, has a 26% chance of getting the first pick. Minnesota had the best record in the regular season of the WNBA, but struggled in the playoffs against the Phoenix Mercury.
Seattle holds the Los Angeles Sparks' pick and has a 16.7% chance of winning the lottery. Washington has less than a 10% chance, while Sky, after trading the Connecticut Sun pick, has a 5.5% probability.
The lottery will be broadcast on ESPN for the 14th consecutive time, with results announced by WNBA operations head Bethany Donofrio. The lottery odds are based on the reverse results of the five teams that did not make the playoffs last season.
With the highest record, the Wings are guaranteed to receive no worse than the third pick.
While there is no clear first pick in the draft, as was the case with the Beckers last season, among the players who could be selected are Lauren Betts from UCLA, Azzi Fudd from UConn, Flau'jae Johnson from LSU, and Olivia Miles from TCU.
The league is expanding to 15 teams this season with the addition of the Portland Fire and Toronto Tempo. Draft details are expanding for these new franchises that have yet to be announced.
