In Ukraine, attacks on energy infrastructure continue

  • Russian attacks on energy infrastructure have led to electricity outages in Ukraine.
  • Naftogaz is planning to import gas from the USA to ensure energy stability.
  • Fighting continues in Ukraine, including clashes in the east.

On November 8, 2025, significant fighting took place in Ukraine, including renewed Russian attacks on energy infrastructure, which resulted in electricity outages in many regions. Ukraine’s Minister of Energy, German Galushchenko, reported that emergency electricity outages have been introduced, which will last until the stabilization of energy systems.

It is noted that drones targeted energy facilities in the Odessa region, but there were no casualties. The Ukrainian company Naftogaz announced the import of 300 million cubic meters of natural gas from the USA through an agreement with the Polish company Orlen to ensure stability during the heating season.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russia is concentrating military forces near the city of Vovchansk in the Kharkiv region. He also reported on shelling from the Russian military in the Pokrovsk district, where Ukrainian forces are conducting counterattacks.

According to data from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, over the last 24 hours, there have been more than 170 combat engagements. Russian forces conducted 55 airstrikes and used over 300 drones.

In response to the escalation of the conflict, the USA provided Hungary with a temporary exemption from sanctions related to Russian energy, which caused a surge in Europe, where new visa rules for Russians have been introduced.

Additionally, on November 8, it became known that more than 1400 citizens from African countries are fleeing from Russian forces in Ukraine. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Andriy Sybiha, warned African governments to prepare their citizens for evacuation.
