Philippines prepare for a new typhoon after Kalmiel

Philippines are once again bracing for extreme weather conditions, as the new typhoon, Fung-Wong, approaches the eastern coastline of the country. The typhoon Kalmiel, which recently passed through the region, caused significant destruction, taking the lives of at least 204 individuals.
Fung-Wong, which could potentially transform into a super typhoon, is expected to hit on Sunday evening or early Monday. Local meteorologists are warning of dangerous storm surges reaching heights of up to five meters and wind speeds of up to 170 km/h.
The typhoon has already brought heavy rains and winds to several areas of the Philippines. In connection with this, residents in low-lying and coastal areas are being evacuated to higher ground.
At the same time, work continues on clearing and recovery in central regions of the Philippines, where Kalmiel caused the most damage. It is reported that over 450,000 people have been evacuated, and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has visited the most affected areas.
In Vietnam, Kalmiel also left a trail of destruction, claiming the lives of five people and destroying nearly 2,800 buildings. The authorities warn of possible new floods and landslides in the central provinces.
