Negotiations between Pakistan and Afghanistan concluded without results

  • Negotiations between Pakistan and Afghanistan have concluded without results.
  • Both sides accused each other of violations of obligations.
  • The previously established ceasefire remains in effect.

Negotiations between Afghanistan and Pakistan concluded without results on Friday, as both sides accused each other of unfulfilled obligations. Representatives of the countries met in Istanbul in an attempt to achieve peace after conflicts on the border, which led to casualties on both sides.

A representative of the Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid, stated that Pakistan was trying to shift the responsibility for its security onto the Afghan government, and did not show readiness to accept responsibility for the security of Afghanistan.

Despite the fact that the negotiations did not bring results, Mujahid confirmed that the ceasefire established on July 19 remains in effect. Meanwhile, Pakistan's Minister of Defense Khawaja Asif stated in an interview that the negotiations have concluded, but the ceasefire will continue as long as the Afghan side does not violate it.

Pakistan's Minister of Information Ataullah Tarar emphasized that the Taliban did not fulfill their obligations regarding the fight against terrorism, which were specified in the peace agreement of 2021. He also noted that Pakistan continues to take all necessary measures to protect its citizens.

During the negotiations, as a result of the incidents along the border, several Afghan civilians were killed, adding to the already complicated situation between the countries. Both sides accused each other of escalating violence, which led to significant casualties.

Despite the absence of results in Istanbul, both sides expressed gratitude to Turkey and Qatar for their role in the mediation.
