Support for Israel-Premier Tech has been suspended due to protests

  • Premier Tech has ended its sponsorship of the Israel-Premier Tech team
  • Protests against the team caused the cancellation of a notable race
  • Director Guy left the team due to personal reasons

The company Premier Tech, which was the title sponsor of the Israel-Premier Tech team, announced the termination of its cooperation with the team following recent protests against the team's participation in competitions, including during the Vuelta a España.

The team, founded in 2014, planned to change its name in 2026 to focus on a new identity, although this does not exempt it from the protests. During the Vuelta protests, activists disrupted the event, which led to the cancellation of one of the races.

The company Premier Tech stated that they want to draw attention to the intention of the team to change its name, with the main reasons for the sponsorship becoming untenable. They had supported the team for four years and noted the achievements of the athletes.

Canadian cyclist Derek Gee, who took fourth place in the Giro d'Italia, also left the team due to his personal reasons. He was linked with a sum of 30 million euros from the team.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Sports of Spain, Pilar Alegría, expressed support for the ban on Israeli sports teams, comparing their situation with Russian teams, which were banned after the invasion of Ukraine.
