The Capture of Pokrovsk Remains a Priority for Russia

Russian forces continue to advance on the city of Pokrovsk, which has become a key object in the conflict in eastern Ukraine. For over 21 months, President Vladimir Putin has been seeking to capture this city, and according to recent data, his army is close to success. Ukrainian troops are trying to hold the advance, but the situation remains complex.

According to information from the front, the fighting for Pokrovsk has turned into one of the most intense and brutal in the war, similar to the battle for Bakhmut in 2023 and Avdiivka in 2024. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Russian troops are trying to eliminate Ukrainian forces in the city, while Ukrainian commanders describe the situation as "difficult."

Russian troops are utilizing a significant number of soldiers for the assault, and although many of them suffer losses, their tactics suggest they are willing to sacrifice troops to achieve their objectives. Along with reported information, the occupation of Pokrovsk would allow Russia to concentrate on other cities in Donetsk.

However, the strategic importance of Pokrovsk has diminished due to encirclement and blockade, yet its symbolic value remains high for the Kremlin. Vladimir Putin has repeatedly emphasized the importance of capturing this city in his public statements.

At the same time, Ukrainian troops are preparing for a possible retreat, although this may result in significant losses. As of today, the majority of Pokrovsk's residents have left the city, leaving only about 1,200 civilians remaining. The Ukrainian government stated that evacuation is currently impossible.
