Airlines are cutting flights due to a government crisis
- Over 1,700 flights have been canceled due to a shortage of controllers
- Airlines are offering passengers free changes to their tickets
- Critical delays are being observed at the largest airports
In the USA, cancellations and delays of flights are ongoing due to the shortage of airline controllers. This is linked to the personnel shortage in the air traffic control services amid the government crisis. From Friday to Sunday, over 1,700 flights were canceled, and delays at airports have significantly increased.
According to data, 754 flights were canceled on Saturday. The government demands airlines to reduce the number of flights by 4% at the 40 largest airports in the country. If the situation does not change, further cuts of up to 10% may occur next week.
Among the airlines that have canceled flights are American Airlines, United Airlines, and Southwest Airlines. They are offering passengers free changes to their tickets in connection with these problems.
The situation is most critical at airports such as Washington, Chicago, Atlanta, and Los Angeles, where delays are ongoing due to a shortage of personnel. At international airports, such as Amsterdam and Tokyo, cancellations are also being observed.
It is expected that as long as the government crisis continues, the number of canceled flights may increase, especially since airlines are likely planning further cancellations ahead.
