Manchester United preserves the academic record of Jack Fletcher
- Jack Fletcher replaced Kobbie Mainoo in the lineup for the match against Tottenham.
- The academic record of Manchester United has lasted 88 years since 1937.
- Fletcher has not yet played for the first team but was on the bench during several matches of the previous season.
Manchester United has preserved its record by including Jack Fletcher in the squad for the match against Tottenham, despite Kobbie Mainoo being injured.
Mainoo, who is a graduate of the academy, did not travel to London due to the aforementioned injury. Fletcher, an 18-year-old forward and son of former Darwen player Darren Fletcher, was substituted for Mainoo to preserve the club's record.
This record has lasted for 88 years, starting from 1937, when there has always been at least one graduate of the academy in the squad. In the past, Mainoo was the only representative of the academy in the squad for four matches, but now his place is taken by Fletcher.
Fletcher has not yet debuted for the first team but has been on the bench for several matches of the previous season. He has also been called up to the England U19 team for participation in the qualifying matches of the European Championship.
The team's coach, Ruben Amorim, emphasized the importance of supporting the club's tradition and continuing to involve young talents from the academy. The club believes that these very details are the foundation of their philosophy.
