The European Union has begun preparing a new, 20th sanctions package against Russia due to its aggression against Ukraine. This was announced on November 8 during a meeting of the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabrielius Landsbergis and the European Commissioner for Financial Services Mairead McGuinness.
According to the information, the new sanctions will be aimed not only at Russia but also at the regime in Belarus, which is an ally of Moscow. The Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs called on EU countries to focus on Minsk during the preparation of new restrictions.
It is expected that the sanctions against the regime of Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko will be aligned with the existing restrictions imposed on Russia. The process of preparing new measures is still in the early stages.
Albuquerqe noted that the EU cooperates with third countries, as some of them help to circumvent the sanctions. Earlier, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed new decisions regarding sanctions, including measures for aligning economic restrictions with European sanctions.
