Correction of errors in British immigration procedures is necessary
- More than 260 immigration cases were mistakenly revoked in the year leading up to December 2025.
- Brakim Kaddur-Sheriff was detained after nine days of being free.
- The Ministry of Justice initiated new checks prior to the revocation of immigration cases.
A serious problem has arisen in Great Britain regarding immigration revocations. According to data, over 260 individuals were wrongly revoked of their immigration status in England and Wales in the year leading up to December 2025, which is significantly higher than in the previous year.
Recently, Algerian Brakim Kaddur-Sheriff, 24, was mistakenly revoked of his immigration status on July 29 and detained for nine days after being identified as a citizen. He had a court case for theft and aggressive behavior.
Minister of Justice David Lammy acknowledged that there is a "problem area" that needs to be addressed, and announced the introduction of new checks prior to revocations. He also initiated an independent investigation to identify systemic immigration errors.
The government reported that the revocations were caused by administrative errors. In the regions, there is a shortage of personnel and turnover, which hinders their functioning.
At the moment, four individuals remain free after being revoked of their immigration status. The situation has caused public outcry among society and politicians, who demand urgent action to rectify the situation.
Additionally, it was noted that the immigration system in Britain is facing serious challenges due to the rising population of immigrants and budget cuts, which affect the quality of service delivery.
