Former host of Top Gear Quentin Wilson died at the age of 68 after a short battle with cancer. This was confirmed by his family in a statement.

Wilson passed away "peacefully at home" on Saturday. In the statement, his relatives described him as a "true national treasure" and "a passionate champion". They emphasized that he brought joy to the automotive world, from petrol cars to electric vehicles, in our homes.

Quentin Wilson was one of the original hosts of the popular BBC car show, working from 1991 to 2001 alongside personalities such as Jeremy Clarkson. After leaving Top Gear, he became the host of the program Fifth Gear.

In addition, Wilson created and hosted the shows "Britain’s Worst Drivers" and "The Car’s The Star". In 2004, he participated in the program "Strictly Come Dancing", where he even achieved the lowest score in the history of the show.

He also actively campaigned for fair fuel prices through the FairFuel campaign and recently worked on getting electric vehicles to become more accessible through the FairCharge initiative. Wilson supported electric vehicles even before it became trendy, and was an early adopter of the GM EV1.

Quentin Wilson is survived by his partner Michaela, children Mercedes, Max and Mini, as well as his parents Saskia, Kassandra and Roxanne. The family has requested privacy and stated that details of the funeral will be announced later.
