- The decision on the stadium's name will be made by local authorities.
President Donald Trump expressed a desire for the new stadium Washington Commanders in Washington to bear his name. According to ESPN, representatives of the Bill's team consulted with the team's owners to express this desire.
It is planned that the stadium, costing $3.7 billion, will be built on the site of the former RFK Stadium, which served as the home for the team from 1961 to 1996. The stadium will seat 65,000 people and is expected to open in 2030.
Press secretary of the Bill's team, Karlin Levitt, stated that Trump's name will be "a prominent name," as he himself contributed to the stadium's revival. The Commanders' owners have not commented on this information yet.
Trump plans to attend the home game of the Commanders against the Detroit Lions this Sunday and may discuss the stadium issue during the match. Regardless of his desire, the decision on the stadium's name still depends on the Council of the District of Columbia and the National Park Service.
Most NFL stadiums sell naming rights to sponsor companies, but the stadium can also bear the names of individuals, and sponsors.
