Hannah Hampton of the "Chelsea" club and the England national team was recognized by BBC as the Women's Footballer of the Year 2025.

This award is a recognition of her achievements over the past 12 months, during which she helped "Chelsea" win the domestic treble, saving 13 clean sheets in 22 matches of the Women's Super League.

Hampton became the main goalkeeper for the England national team, notably featuring in the Euro 2025 final, where she managed to save two penalties in the shootout against Spain. The England national team won this tournament.

In the voting for the award, Hampton surpassed her teammates from the team, such as Alisa Russo, as well as Spanish footballers Aitana Bonmatí, Mariona Caldentey, and Patri Guijarro. The list of finalists was compiled by an expert commission, which included coaches, players, and journalists.

Hampton noted that she did not expect this award, as she considered that all nominated footballers had fantastic seasons. She became only the second goalkeeper to receive this award, after Mary Earps in 2023.

Hampton also became a heroine of media scandal, related to criticism from Mary Earps, who, among other things, claimed that Hampton did not deserve her place in the team. Hampton responded to this, stating that she does not allow the thoughts of others to influence her.
