Ohtani, who helped Japan win the WBC 2023, is now eager to replicate this success. He was named MVP of the tournament and also received his fourth MVP award in his MLB career. In 2023, his performances included a standout game where he struck out 10 batters and hit three home runs in the playoffs.
In a post on Instagram, Ohtani expressed his excitement about the opportunity to represent Japan: "I thank all the fans for a wonderful season. I will be diligently training and I look forward to meeting you next year." However, he did not clarify whether he would play in the position of pitcher during the WBC.
The World Baseball Championship 2026 will begin on March 6 in Tokyo, where Japan will face teams from China, Korea, Australia, and the Czech Republic.
