On November 25, 2025, in Beirut, the funeral of Haytham Tabatabai, the commander of Hezbollah's military forces, who was killed as a result of the Israeli airstrike, took place. This was the first incident where Israeli forces conducted a strike on the Lebanese capital, resulting in the deaths of five individuals and 28 injured.
Hezbollah supporters held a procession for Tabatabai, carrying yellow flags of the organization during the funeral, which took place in the south of Beirut. Israel asserts that Tabatabai was the head of Hezbollah's military staff and urged the group not to renew its military forces, emphasizing that this could lead to new conflicts.
Iran condemned the attack in connection with Tabatabai's killing, stating that it is an assault on the sovereignty of Lebanon. Senior Iranian officials, including Mohsen Rezaei, urged Hezbollah to reconsider its strategy of "strategic patience," noting that the killings of leaders of the opposition do not diminish their resoluteness. Rezaei emphasized that such actions by Israel only exacerbate the situation.
France expressed deep concern regarding the potential escalation of conflict and urged all sides to maintain mechanisms for monitoring peace agreements. Following Tabatabai's killing, discussions are ongoing regarding the likelihood of further escalations, especially since Hezbollah continues to receive support from Iran, regardless of pressure from Israel and the USA.
