Romania has deployed interceptors due to foreign incursions
- Romania has deployed interceptors due to foreign incursions along its border with Ukraine.
- The threat of foreign incursions has persisted following Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports.
- European officials positively assess the changes in U.S. peace proposals.
Romania was forced to deploy interceptors on November 25, 2025, due to foreign incursions in its airspace along the border with Ukraine, confirmed the Ministry of Defense.
Initially, two Eurofighter interceptors were dispatched, which tracked the drone in the southeastern part of Tulcea. After this, when the radar detected yet another violation of the airspace in the Galati area, two Romanian F-16 interceptors were deployed.
The drones moved in the direction of the internal regions of the country, and residents of three counties were warned about the necessity to find shelter.
This incident is part of the repeated foreign incursions into Romanian airspace, which have been occurring since the beginning of Russian attacks on Ukrainian ports in the Danube. Romania has legislation that allows for the shooting down of drones during peacetime if they pose a threat to life or property, but so far this mechanism has not been utilized.
Separately, European officials expressed satisfaction with the results of recent discussions regarding U.S. peace proposals for Ukraine, which were previously considered favorable for Russia, but have been changed. U.S. President Donald Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz noted potential progress in negotiations, although Merz emphasized that peace in Ukraine will not be achieved immediately.
