Grem Linehan, co-creator of the show Father Ted, was acquitted of the charges in the persecution of transgender activism, but was found guilty in the criminal origin of his mobile phone. The court hearing took place on November 25, 2025, in the Westminster court, where the ruling was announced by Judge Brin Clarke.
Linehan, 57, was accused of persecuting Sophie Bruks on social media from July 11 to July 27 last year, and also of charges in the origin of the phone on July 19 last year during the Battle of Ideas conference in Westminster.
During the court hearing, it was presented that Bruks photographed conference participants during Fiona McAnena's speech, director of the organization Sex Matters. After this, the activist asked Linehan why he considers it acceptable to refer to trans women as "domestic terrorists".
In response, Linehan called Bruks "a marginal incel" and "a scygansky porn-watcher", to which the activist replied: "You are the incel, you are the divorced one". The accused claimed that Linehan regularly published abusive descriptions of Bruks on social media.
Comedy author, known for his views on gender issues, stated that his life has become unbearable due to trans activists and described Bruks as "a young soldier in the army of trans activists". Linehan also claimed that he wanted to destroy the anonymity of activists who, in his opinion, cause harm to others.
