Japanese Prime Minister Discusses Relations with Trump and China

  • Such discussions with Trump concern the USA and China.
  • China demands that Japan retract comments about Taiwan.
  • Taiwan prohibits the possibility of returning to China.

Tokyo — Prime Minister of Japan Fumio Kishida on November 25, 2025, held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump. During the conversation, he received updated information about relations between the USA and China, including a recent conversation Trump had with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

Kishida, who recently provoked China with his comments about Taiwan, noted that Trump emphasized the importance of strengthening the alliance between them. He did not disclose the details of the discussion regarding Taiwan, but confirmed that they discussed the strengthening of the alliance between Japan and the USA.

In addition, Taiwan's president Tsai Ing-wen, in response to Xi's comments about the possibility of Taiwan returning to China, stated that this is not an option for Taiwan. He emphasized that Taiwan is an independent country, and its people have the right to determine their own future.

The conflict between Japan and China escalated after Takai's statement about a possible military reaction from Japan in case of a Chinese attack on Taiwan. In response to these comments, China stated that they have "crossed the red line" and promised to respond to Japan's actions.

Japan is seeking to reduce tensions in relations with China, regardless of the fact that Beijing continues to exert economic pressure, holding official meetings and warning its citizens about traveling to Japan. Tokyo reiterates that it supports a peaceful resolution of the situation in the Taiwan Strait.
