RFU Reports on Decrease in Losses After the Financial Year

  • RFU announced revenues of 228 million pounds for the 2024/25 year
  • Losses decreased to 2 million pounds after 42 million in the previous year
  • Plans are in place for the reconstruction of the "Alliance" stadium for 650 million pounds

The English Rugby Football Union (RFU) announced the achievement of record revenues amounting to 228 million pounds sterling in the financial year 2024/25, but noted an overall loss of more than 2 million pounds. This is a significant improvement compared to the loss of 42 million pounds in the previous year.

RFU invested 94 million pounds in the development of rugby in England, including 31 million in the community. Bill Sweeney, the RFU's chief executive, received a salary of 700 thousand pounds, which is noticeably less than in the previous year when his income reached 1.1 million pounds.

Financial results have improved significantly thanks to the holding of a series of domestic matches of the England team. However, the RFU is also faced with financial challenges, such as inflationary pressures and dependence on matchday revenues.

Plans are underway for the reconstruction of the "Alliance" stadium in Twickenham, which will cost nearly 650 million pounds. However, this project is linked to opposition from the local council due to plans to not only hold rugby events at the stadium.
