France demands improvements to Trump's peace plan regarding Ukraine
- France demands a review of the U.S. peace plan.
- Macron emphasizes the importance of Ukrainian interests.
- Territorial issues should be resolved only by Ukrainians.
This is reported by RBC Ukraine, Asharq Al-Awsat.
French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the U.S. peace plan, designed to end the war in Ukraine, needs improvements. He emphasized that the plan should not impose conditions that limit the response of the Ukrainian Armed Forces or include territorial concessions that do not take into account the interests of Ukraine.
Macron noted that the primary red line in negotiations is Russia and its demands, and any territorial issues should be resolved exclusively by Ukrainians. He also indicated that Europe should be able to control frozen Russian assets that could be utilized for the restoration of Ukraine.
Earlier, the U.S. presented a 28-point peace plan, which includes provisions that prioritize Ukrainian interests, such as the immediate withdrawal of Ukrainian armed forces and recognition of annexed territories. Macron stressed the necessity of reviewing this plan to make it acceptable for Ukraine and Europe.
Discussions between the U.S. administration, Europe, and Ukraine are ongoing, but the likelihood of achieving a plan that truly ensures the independence of Ukraine remains low. There is a concern that Russia may try to impose its conditions for peace, which could jeopardize the security of the entire region.
