- Systemic corruption in the energy sector has been ongoing for many years.
- In the framework of the "Midas" case, new suspects have been identified.
- Cooperation with international partners continues to ensure the recovery of assets.
This is reported by Interfax Ukraine, Ukrinform, Interfax Ukraine.
Director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) Semen Kryvonos reported that in the course of the investigation of the corruption case "Operation Midas," a significant amount of funds was identified not only from the energy sector but also from other spheres of state activity.
Kryvonos noted that the energy sector is a priority, especially since it remains the largest "dark" area in the field of regulation. He also emphasized that new suspects in the "Midas" case will be announced soon. As part of the investigation, a comparison of the dates of the transactions with the dates of financial operations is being conducted.
In accordance with the information published by NABU and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP), corruption in the energy sector is systemic and ongoing. Since 2022, investigations into five resonant cases in this area have been underway. Among these cases are those related to "Energoatom" and "Ukrhydroenergo" with total losses in the hundreds of millions of hryvnias.
During a meeting of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada on anti-corruption policy, Kryvonos reported that international legal requests will be sent to identify all financial operations related to the case. Collected digital data and audio recordings are being investigated, for which thousands of hours of recordings have already been collected.
Currently, active cooperation with international partners is underway to ensure the recovery of stolen assets across borders. Kryvonos emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, despite the existing difficulties, including the collection of confidential information about NABU's activities.
