- It is recommended to avoid sharing messages between iPhone and Android.
Mobile messaging app users are facing new threats associated with new spyware.
Amid the increasing activity of hackers, The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) has released a warning about new methods that malicious actors use to gain access to encrypted messages. Along with the information, the new spyware, known as Sturnus, is capable of bypassing the encryption of messaging apps such as Signal, Telegram, and WhatsApp, gaining access to messages after their decryption.
This threat confirms that even when using encrypted platforms, there is a risk that attackers can view users' personal data. CISA urges all users to be cautious and adhere to basic security rules, such as: not downloading apps from untrusted sources and activating security features on their devices.
In addition, experts recommend that users avoid sharing messages between devices iPhone and Android, as these messages are not necessarily encrypted. CISA advises configuring iMessage so that messages are not sent as SMS when iMessage is unavailable.
Problems related to the new spyware are also a consequence of known phishing methods, such as phishing that uses QR codes and embedded links for access to malicious records. It is important to be cautious when receiving suspicious messages that may contain spyware links.
Finally, experts advise users to adhere to basic security principles: regularly update software, use antivirus programs, and avoid suspicious apps to reduce the risk of infection by spyware.
