Notably, the most famous red card in football history occurred during the 2006 World Cup final. In additional time during the match between France and Italy, Zinedine Zidane received a red card for headbutting Marco Materazzi. Zidane, provoked, headbutted Materazzi in the chest, for which he received a red card. This moment became the last in his career, and France lost the match in a penalty shootout.

Three yellow cards

An even stranger incident occurred with Croatian Josip Simunic during the same World Cup. In the match between Croatia and Australia, he received two yellow cards, but the referee forgot to show him the red card, which led to confusion.

Eden Gazar, known for his dribbling skills, also received a red card in 2013.
