Ending the War in Ukraine Requires European Agreement

  • Germany and the United Kingdom emphasize the importance of a European agreement for peace in Ukraine.
  • A just peace is only possible under conditions acceptable to Ukraine and the EU.
  • The peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia is at the final stage.

This is reported by Interfax Ukraine, RBC Ukraine, RBC Ukraine.

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, after talking with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that his country is striving for a swift cessation of hostilities, a just and lasting peace for Ukraine, as well as security for Europe. Merz emphasized that any plan that infringes on European interests and sovereignty requires a European agreement.

In response to his words, the end of the war is only possible under conditions that will be acceptable both for Kyiv and for the European Union. This concerns security guarantees for EU member states. Recent news from the White House indicates that the peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia is already at the final stage, but some details remain that require further negotiations.

The British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, also noted that any agreement on ending the war must be just and lasting. He emphasized that issues concerning Ukraine and its future should be determined by Ukraine itself, and also that it is important for issues that affect Europe and NATO to receive agreement from European countries and NATO members.
