Ukraine elected to the Executive Council of the OPCW for 2026-2028

  • Ukraine, Slovakia, and Slovenia were elected to the OPCW.
  • Russia reported defeats in the third session.
  • This election serves as a support in the fight against chemical threats.

This is reported by Ukrinform, Interfax Ukraine.

At the 30th session of the States Parties to the Convention on the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, which took place in The Hague, Ukraine, Slovakia, and Slovenia were elected to the Executive Council of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons for 2026-2028. Russia reported defeats in the third session.

This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba on social media X. He emphasized that regardless of all the attempts of the aggressor state, the states-parties made a clear choice: a systematic violator of the Convention on Chemical Weapons cannot influence the governing body of the OPCW.

Kuleba also noted that this election is not only a part but also an important instrument for ensuring adequate and timely responses to chemical threats, which arise as a result of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. He reiterated that Ukraine will continue to work on ensuring compliance with international law and protecting the world from the threat of chemical weapons.
