AI Shopping Assistants Launched Before the Holidays

  • OpenAI and Perplexity are launching AI shopping assistants for shopping.
  • AI assistants provide personalized recommendations for users.
  • Significant growth in online shopping is expected with AI support.

This is reported by TechCrunch, The Verge.

The tech world is gearing up for the holiday season, especially since OpenAI and Perplexity announced new shopping features powered by artificial intelligence. These tools will integrate into existing chatbots to help users explore potential purchases.

Similar tools are one-to-one. OpenAI encourages users to ask ChatGPT about purchases, such as, "a new notebook for gaming for $1000 with a screen larger than 15 inches." Perplexity emphasizes the ability of its AI assistant to remember previous user queries, allowing it to provide recommendations based on prior user inquiries.

Adobe predicts that online shopping with the support of artificial intelligence will increase by 520% this holiday season, which could be profitable for startups in the AI sector, such as Phia and Cherry.

However, as Zak Gadsden, the General Director of the shopping tool Onton, notes, startups with niche solutions can provide a better experience than general tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity. Gadsden believes that the quality of data is essential for the effectiveness of AI tools.

Perplexity also emphasizes that its AI assistant remembers previous queries, enabling users to receive more personalized recommendations. Currently, their service is available to users in the USA and works on various platforms.

Both companies are looking for ways to monetize, considering potential collaborations with major retailers to advertise their products through new features.
