Appointment of Rafa Abraham as Deputy Director of CDC
- Rafa Abraham has been appointed to a high position at the CDC
- He is a well-known critic of vaccines and supporter of alternative treatment methods
- CDC has updated information about vaccines and autism on its website
Dr. Rafa Abraham, who previously held the position of general surgeon in Louisiana, has been appointed as the principal deputy director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In the summer of 2025, he instructed department staff to stop the promotion of vaccination against preventable illnesses.
Abraham, who previously served in Congress for three terms, has experience working as a veterinarian and later received medical education. His appointment became known on November 25, 2025, although at that time the CDC did not have a permanent director.
Abraham is known for his criticism of vaccines against COVID-19 and has expressed doubts about the trust in the pharmaceutical industry. In his statement, he noted that "solutions for improving health will likely come in the form of tablets or injections."
CDC recently updated information on its website about vaccines and autism, stating that there is no conclusive evidence that vaccines cause autism.
Abraham's criticism also relates to his decision not to inform the public about the rare cases of vaccine-related injuries, where two individuals did not receive compensation from this coverage. His appointment sparked discussion, as he supports the movement "Make America Healthy Again."
