China launched a replacement for transporting astronauts to the space station
- Shenzhou-22 has become the term vehicle for astronauts
- The launch took place on November 25, 2025, from Jiuquan
- The spacecraft will ensure the safe return of astronauts and deliver cargo
On November 25, 2025, China launched an uncrewed spacecraft Shenzhou-22 to its Tianhe space station. This launch was a response to the situation when three astronauts were left without a safe means for returning to Earth.
The launch occurred at 12:11 local time (04:11 UTC) from the Jiuquan spaceport in northwest China. The Chinese space agency confirmed that the spacecraft successfully separated from the rocket and entered the planned orbit.
The spacecraft remained in orbit for approximately three hours after launch, providing the astronauts with the possibility of returning in case of an emergency situation. Earlier, on November 5, a crack was discovered in the window of the spacecraft Shenzhou-20, which raised concerns about its safety for flight.
Astronauts who remained at the station could return to Earth on Shenzhou-22 next year. This launch was the first term vehicle in the history of China.
The spacecraft not only returns astronauts but also delivers medical supplies, spare parts, and food, including fresh fruits and meat.
The speed of preparation for the launch was significant: usually, it takes 45 days, but in this case, it was managed in just 16 days due to the readiness of the spacecraft at the cosmodrome.
