Washington — Congressman Eric Swalwell filed a federal lawsuit against the director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency, Bill Pulte. The lawsuit claims that Pulte misused his official position, utilizing private information from Swalwell and other critics of President Donald Trump.

The lawsuit was filed on November 25, 2025, less than two weeks after Pulte sent a criminal referral to the Department of Justice regarding Swalwell due to suspicions of fraud in the mortgage industry. Swalwell demands that the court order Pulte to retract this referral, as well as request damages for violating his rights.

The lawsuit states that Pulte's actions constitute a violation of the Confidentiality Act, as they did not have legal grounds for disclosing personal information. Swalwell also asserts that Pulte intended to persecute him and other Democrats due to their political views, which is illegal.

Pulte, who occupies his position, has repeatedly referred cases to prosecutors involving other political opponents of Trump, including New York State Attorney General Letitia James and Senator Adam Schiff. In July 2025, Pulte submitted a similar referral concerning Swalwell, which sparked outrage among Democrats.

Swalwell, who is a critic of Trump, denies all allegations of fraud in the mortgage industry, asserting that he submitted a counterclaim that confirms that his office in Washington is not his primary residence.
