Richard Branson announced the death of his friend in a post on social media on November 25, 2025. He described Joan as his "best partner" and "the light that led the way."
"I am heartbroken to announce that Joan, my friend and partner for 50 years, has passed away," wrote the 75-year-old Branson.
The couple got married in 1989 and raised two children: Holly and Sam. They also had a third child, Sarah Claire, who passed away shortly after birth in 1979.
Richard Branson recalled the moment when he first saw Joan in 1976 at an antique shop in London. He noted that she was a very private person who always supported him emotionally and spiritually.
In her own tribute, dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Joan, he revealed that he fell in love with her at first sight.
