Milan Lucic has been released by the St. Louis Blues to return to the NHL
- Milan Lucic has completed his attempt to return to the NHL after the termination of his PTO.
- The player only played five games in the AHL with a minus in the statistics.
- The Blues have 14 healthy forwards and a disappointing start to the season.
St. Louis — The St. Louis Blues announced the termination of the contract with Milan Lucic, who signed a professional tryout contract (PTO) three months ago. This happened after Lucic, a 37-year-old forward, failed to secure a spot on the team.
Initially, Lucic signed the PTO with the Blues in September, hoping to make the main roster. He played in four preseason games, where he scored one point, but suffered an injury to his lower body that required prolonged rehabilitation.
After being released, he signed another PTO with the farm club Springfield Thunderbirds, but in five games in the AHL, he only earned one point and did not manage to avoid a negative balance of -7.
It is currently unknown whether Lucic will continue his attempt to return to the NHL in the future. During his NHL career, which spans 17 seasons, he played 1,177 games, scoring 586 points, including 233 goals.
In the previous season, Lucic returned to Boston, but he only played four games before taking a three-game leave of absence. In the fall of 2023, he was included in the program for players after being waived in the summer, but the waivers were cleared when his friend refused to testify.
The Blues currently have 14 healthy forwards, and Lucic's release was the result of his ineffectiveness on the team and the filled roster.
