Discovery of the Body at Stone Mountain
On May 31, 2025, near the summit of Stone Mountain, a popular tourist destination in Georgia, the burned body of a man was discovered. The body was found after a hiker called emergency services at 8:18 AM.
The body was located under a rock overhang, concealed by stones that provided privacy. According to Stone Mountain police representative John Bankhead, this area is not typical for visitors as it is situated far from the main pedestrian paths.
Investigation of the Circumstances
At this time, the identity of the deceased has not been established, and the circumstances of his death remain unknown. The body has been sent to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner for further examination. The investigation is being conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
For the safety of visitors, authorities urged the public not to worry about their safety in the park. After the body was discovered, the Skyride cable car was closed for several hours but has since resumed operations.
