Change of Hotel Due to Safety

The Mexican national football team changed their hotel in Los Angeles ahead of the Gold Cup match scheduled for Saturday. This decision was made due to concerns about safety amid protests against immigration raids in the city.

The team was supposed to stay at a hotel in downtown Los Angeles, but the CONCACAF organization allowed them to change their accommodation to a yet-to-be-determined hotel. According to sources, the team will move to a hotel in Long Beach to avoid potential clashes in the city center.

Protests in Los Angeles

Protests began on Friday after federal immigration authorities arrested more than 40 people across the city. On Sunday, crowds blocked a major highway and set autonomous vehicles on fire, prompting police to respond with tear gas and rubber bullets.

On Monday, U.S. President Donald Trump ordered the deployment of an additional 2,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles.

Coach's Comments

The coach of the Mexican national team, Javier Aguirre, was unwilling to comment on the protest situation at a press conference on Monday in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where the team was preparing for a friendly match against Turkey.

"I will not talk about Los Angeles; I said we are talking about sports here," Aguirre noted.

After the match against the Dominican Republic, the Mexican national team will head to Arlington, Texas, to play against Suriname, and then conclude the first round of the tournament with a match against Costa Rica in Las Vegas.
