Recovery of the Bodies of Deceased Hostages

Israeli security forces conducted an operation in Gaza, resulting in the recovery of the bodies of two deceased hostages. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed this information on June 11, 2025.

One of the deceased is Yair (YaYa) Yaakov, 59, who was killed in his home in Kibbutz Nir Oz during an attack organized by Hamas on October 7, 2023. His sons, Or and Yagil, as well as his partner Meirav Tal, were taken hostage but were released in November 2023 as part of a ceasefire agreement.

Information about the recovery of Yair Yaakov's body came from his sons. Yagil expressed his feelings in an Instagram post, stating that he is awaiting his father's funeral.

Prime Minister Netanyahu expressed condolences to the Yaakov family, noting that he shares their pain along with all citizens of Israel. He also thanked the military for their efforts in recovering the hostages.

The Hostage and Missing Persons Families Forum expressed deep sorrow over Yaakov's killing and called for the urgent return of all remaining hostages.

Since the attack on October 7, 2023, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 1,200 people, the Israeli military has begun a campaign in Gaza. According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, at least 55,104 people have died since then.
